Formal copperplate with thick-thin contrast and long entry strokes.
Elegant, slightly upright calligraphy for short words and names.
Tall, narrow italic calligraphy; delicate at small sizes.
Ornate capitals with heavy flourishes; best for one word or initials.
Calligraphy's thick-and-thin strokes and flourishes need room. One word, two initials or a short phrase usually reads better than a long quote squeezed into the same space.
The thinnest strokes in copperplate-style lettering are the first to soften over time. Going a size up, or choosing a calligraphy font with sturdier thin strokes, gives them a better chance — but skin and placement matter as much as the font.
The same words read differently in a flowing script, a fraktur blackletter or a typewriter face. Pick the style for the feeling you want first, then compare two or three fonts inside it on your skin tone.
Spelling, dates and translations are permanent — check them with someone who knows. Bring the PNG as a reference: a tattoo artist will usually redraw the lettering by hand to fit the body's curve and their own line work.
